About the Artist
Irwin E. Thompson published many articles in medical literature journals, during almost three decades as a member of the clinical faculty of Harvard Medical School and as medical director of Boston IVF prior to his retirement. During the last two decades, Dr. Thompson has resurrected his interest in the creative arts and has published a number of poems, while also exhibiting his painting in and around Boston.
Born is Scotland, he grew up exploring the mountains and moors of his native land. This collection of poems and paintings is deeply personal: a selection based on his interests in themes of the origins of life on this planet, related natural phenomena and the ecological impact of Homo sapiens. Included also are works derived from personal experiences of the vicissitudes of our own existence and how we react to them.
Irwin Thompson is an active member of community art groups, including Newton Art Association, the NewArtCenter in Newton and Newton Open Studios. He has been an active docent at the Rose Art Museum of Brandeis University for five years.
Dr. Thompson was featured in the article Memories Inspire a Second Act by Susan Chaityn Lebovits on January 13, 2008, in the Boston Globe.
Memories & Milestones is available for purchase in the Danforth Museum of Art Museum Shop.
